We encourage community-wide participation in heart disease prevention, education, detection, and lifestyle changes that can improve the cardiovascular health status of all communities, especially those with a majority of African Americans residents who remain at higher risk for heart disease and stroke when compared to white Americans.

The Spirit of the Heart Community Program

ABC’s signature community program is Spirit of the Heart. This program is scheduled in several U.S. cities each year and may consist of a Leadership Forum, a health fair with free screenings, food, music, and family fun, and a Message from the Pulpit from at least one local church. The programs are developed to help consumers understand that heart disease is preventable, and to share heart-healthy practices as important steps for longevity. This program has made measurable differences in communities nationwide even leading to legislation for health care reform. During the pandemic, the ABC was able to usher in a new way of engaging the communities we serve with the launch of a virtual version of this signature program. This year’s scheduled events include the following cities.
