Dr. Richard Allen Williams Scholarship for Medical Students
Description
Named in honor of ABC Founder, Richard Allen Williams, MD, FACC, FAHA, five (5) successful candidates will each be awarded a $5,000 scholarship to support their academic journey to becoming cardiologists.
Eligibility
• Must self-identify as African American/Black and/or another underrepresented minority group.
• Be currently attending a US medical school (students that have been accepted to medical school but have not yet begun their studies will not be considered).
• Be an active ABC Member.
• Must show an interest in the field of cardiology.
The Award
Five (5) scholarships at $5,000 each will be awarded to recipients of the Dr. Richard Allen Williams Scholarship for Medical Students.
Deadline

- Academic

- A letter from candidate’s current medical school indicating good academic standing.

- Personal Statement

- A 500-word (or less) statement describing candidate’s medical career goals and financial need for the scholarship.

- CV

- CV should demonstrate any or all of the following components:
- Ability, interest, and/or participation in the promotion of health for Black and/or other underserved communities.
- Participation in research or other extracurricular activities demonstrated academic pursuits and clinical acumen.
- Proven leadership during his or her academic pursuits.
- Interest in the field of cardiology.
- CV should demonstrate any or all of the following components:

- Two Letters of Recommendation

- Letters should describe the candidate’s academic performance, clinical skills, leadership skills, and commitment to caring for minoritized or underserved populations.

ABC Policy for Scholarships and Awards:
- The ABC will ensure a diverse group of scholarship recipients that reflect the organization’s commitment to inclusivity without using preferential points.
- Scholarship recipients are eligible to reapply for consecutive scholarships, however, priority will be given to first-time applicants to broaden the impact of the program.
